kolkata: signs of revolt are becoming prominent in the trinamul congress after the new party organisation was set in place last week. it is now clear that those who lost out in the leadership race are thinking about other alternatives. the rumble of dissent has grown to be rather loud on wednesday when two factions of the party staged their own demonstrations in kolkata.
in the morning, it was the trinamul yuba congress brigade that staged an official, silent, dharna at city's sskm hospital. the silent dharna was led by trinamul youth leader like madan mitra and included tamonash ghosh, nirmal maji, indicating that it had party's official endorsement. in the afternoon, however, it was the renegade leader paresh pal, who led a protest rally under the banner of calcutta citizen's forum. pal's grouse has been that trinamul was moving away from agitational politics and failing to cash in on popular issues. but mitra and his team felt that pal's move to organise a parallel rally, even when his party's official programme was being held, was tantamount to revolt. according to trinamul yuba congress sources, pal was peeved with his present party after he was denied the post of trinamul yuba congress president. there is another section in the trinamul congress who feel that pal's recent overtures were aimed at preparing the ground for his return to the congress. pal no doubt, brushes away both the allegations. "i am firmly behind with mamata banerjee. but she has been surrounded by a group of people who have no stake in agitational politics," pal told tnn.
